Ever Velasquez

Ever's own practice as an artist and Santera/Curandera utilises the visual language and history of Yoruba religious culture to delve into the legacy of colonialism and its ties to indigenous spiritual traditions, particularly focusing on women's issues.

Highlighting artists from non-dominant perspectives, particularly artists of colour, has remained a central focus for Charlie James Gallery. Presently, the gallery actively supports a robust cohort of artists from Los Angeles and beyond, whose works reflect their lived experiences, thereby expanding viewers' understanding of American life and its diverse components.

The first piece I acquired with Art Money was my Shizu Saldamando. It was important for me to support my friend with her work and her new personal ventures. Shizu has a real gift of capturing the raw essence of each one of her muses. When I saw Angela In Miami I knew it was the piece for me because I also collect Angela's work. By buying this piece, I felt an unspoken sisterhood between the three of us as artists and friends was created.
