Established in late 2016 by Sotiris Sotiriou, COMA emerged as a contemporary art space, initially conceived as a project-based initiative with the aim of introducing international artists to audiences in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Over time, COMA has evolved into a multidisciplinary team of specialists dedicated to presenting an unparalleled gallery program, showcasing a diverse range of artists. Many of these artists have shown, or have gone on to show, in major museums, biennales and commercial galleries across the globe. In September 2022, COMA expanded its footprint in Sydney and opened a second location, offering the space for additional viewing rooms and enhanced programming.
"Art Money is an integral part of the collecting landscape today, facilitating greater acquisitions for experienced collectors and providing emerging buyers with ease of access to growing a collection.
Since COMA's inception, Art Money has been a service we offer with confidence. Each Art Money transaction is seamless, bringing a sense of support and collaboration to the collecting experience."

Justin Williams
Captive Audience, 2022
Oil on canvas
193 x 208 cm / 76 x 81 7/8 in
Justin Williams has consistently depicted a diverse array of subjects, most unknown to him, sourced from vintage photographs, books, and his own creative imaginings. However, this recent major work, one of two large scale pieces completed at the close of 2022, offers a fascinating departure from his typical approach. This piece uncharacteristically portrays subjects bearing a close likeness to friends within Justin's artist community. Notably, this work also stands out as one of only a few pieces where visible tattoos adorn the figures.
Justin's works often evoke a sense of bygone eras with elements of the historical, but this particular work is hard to pin down. Having observed this piece being painted, I can attest to the exquisite detailing, from the silver underpainting, the pheasants around the base of the canvas, and the drooping leaves left unsanded.

I have been working with Nick Modrzewski for the last three years and have watched his practice evolve into a multi-headed beast, much like the paintings themselves. Earlier works addressed the idea of law and order as theatrical concepts and recently the focus has shifted to social interactions and public events. Campaign feels as though it navigates and intersects these two worlds, making it a significant work in that regard. According to Nick, the amorphous figures that fill the canvas are leaving the courtroom and are marching their way into the world.
